Juan is one of the highly skilled Keepers at the Behler Chelonian Center. Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, Juan moved to United States with his family in 2000, and joined the Turtle Conservancy in November 2010. In addition to feeding and observing the collection at the BCC, Juan is also responsible for understanding the natural history of each species kept at the BCC as well building species-appropriate enclosures and assuring that each individual animal is receiving the best possible care.
Juan truly loves his work with turtles and tortoises and has a passion for conserving all Critically Endangered species but his favorite species is the Ploughshare Tortoise (Astrochelys yniphora). In his spare time, Juan enjoys spending time with his family and playing soccer.
