Thacher School X Turtle Conservancy

The Thacher School and Turtle Conservancy have reached another milestone in our partnership as we have successfully wrapped up our second full school year of teaching the Field Biology and Conservation courses!

Since our last update, the students have completed their conservation projects and shared their work during a poster and video gallery at The Thacher School. This gave students an opportunity to speak to the public and their fellow students about the innovative work and research they have been conducting throughout the year.

Another part of the end of school year involved an EDT trip to the Sespe Wilderness in our own backyard in Ojai. Students of all grades had the opportunity to participate in this camping trip with a focus on surveying for Southern Pacific Pond Turtles (Actinemys pallida).

We are proud to say that many of our graduating seniors have crafted their future collegiate careers towards a conservation or environmental focused path. It’s an exciting time for the Turtle Conservancy’s education department as our relationship with The Thacher School will continue evolving and we look forward to seeing what our students will accomplish in their future endeavors as stewards for turtles and for our planet.
