
Bruce Weissgold
Bruce Weissgold, Bruce is the past-President of the International Iguana Foundation. He worked with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) for 25 years at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. He started his career in law enforcement intelligence, investigating international reptile, parrot, and plant smuggling networks, but most of his time was in the USFWS International Affairs policy program. Currently, Bruce works as an independent consultant on a wide assortment of conservation policy and planning issues, including wildlife trade, writing, grant-making, and on-the-ground activities. Previously he worked for TRAFFIC/WWF-US, the Department of State, AAAS, and volunteered at the National Zoo’s reptile house. He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts and the University of Virginia. Bruce lives outside Washington, DC but keeps a little cottage among the red footed tortoises and marine turtles of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
