A Farewell to Our 2025 Summer Interns

Three students recently completed their summer internships at the Turtle Conservancy. While we will miss seeing them every day, we are proud to send our interns back into the world with new skills and experiences that will support their future careers in conservation.
Boris van Neer
A student at HAS Green Academy in the Netherlands majoring in Applied Biology, Boris interned under biologists Nathanael Stanek and Kylie Rude with our Southwestern Pond Turtle Conservation Program. Despite growing up and studying in the Netherlands, Boris traveled to the U.S. to participate in the TC’s internship program. “I found this internship at the Turtle Conservancy and it ticked all my boxes because I love turtles, I like ecology, and I can do my own research here studying the turtles in their natural habitat,” he shared.
Boris assisted with field surveys, data analysis, and conducted an independent research project on invasive species. We were thrilled to bring him to the Annual Symposium on the Conservation and Biology of Tortoises and Freshwater Turtles, where he connected with biologists and conservationists from around the world and contributed to the scientific poster presented by our pond turtle team. Boris described the internship as a “dream come true.”
Akshara Reddy
An international student from India studying Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology at UC Davis, Akshara worked across several departments during her internship. She assisted with field research, contributed to animal care at our conservation center, and even served as a camp counselor at our week-long kids’ summer program, Wildflower Club.
We extend a special thanks to both Boris and Akshara for their hard work this summer, which helped make our ongoing field research possible.
Georgia Browning
A high school senior at The Thacher School, Georgia interned as a keeper assistant, helping with the daily care and upkeep of hundreds of turtles at our conservation center. She also supported campers during the TC’s week-long summer program, Wildflower Club.
The Turtle Conservancy is proud to provide internship opportunities for the next generation of wildlife researchers and conservationists. We hope the experiences gained here will guide our interns in their future careers. We wish them the very best of luck and hope to see them again soon!
